Advancing minimally invasive spine surgery across the Asia–Pacific region through education, research, and clinical collaboration.
The Pacific and Asian Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (PASMISS) is a professional academic organisation dedicated to advancing the field of minimally invasive spinal surgery across the Pacific and Asian region. Its mission is to foster research, education, clinical exchange and collaboration in minimally invasive spine techniques, instrumentation, endoscopic approaches and other innovations in spine care.
The Pacific and Asian Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (PASMISS) was launched in 2001 with its first meeting in Bali, Indonesia, under the leadership of founding President Professor June Kyu Lee. Since then, this dynamic society has grown into a major regional forum, bringing together spine surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopaedic specialists, researchers and allied professionals from across Asia and the Pacific.
With its roots in the founding countries of Korea, Taiwan and Japan, PASMISS has expanded over two decades to engage national chapters or representatives in nine countries, reflecting the breadth of interest and innovation in minimally invasive spine surgery throughout the region.
Each year, PASMISS holds an annual international meeting - rotating through cities across the region - to showcase cutting-edge techniques, live demonstrations, hands-on workshops, video forums and research presentations. From its first meeting in 2001 in Bali, through successive gatherings in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, China and beyond, the society has maintained a strong commitment to excellence, practical education and regional cooperation.
PASMISS serves as a leading educational & collaborative platform: advancing the science and practice of minimally invasive spine surgery, promoting regional exchange, and ultimately improving patient outcomes throughout the Asia-Pacific spine community.
We warmly invite you to join the society, participate in upcoming meetings and contribute to the continued growth and impact of PASMISS.
